With the recent popularity of the paranormal field, many people have decided to try their hands at "ghost hunting". While the search for evidence of paranormal activity is indeed a noble and exciting venture, it is important to understand what type of activity is present at the location being researched.
There are several different types of known hauntings. The most well known categories of hauntings are residual, intelligent, poltergeist, and demonic. This article will explain, in detail, the characteristics of a residual haunting. Residual hauntings are the most common type of haunting experienced. This type of haunting is a lot like a recording of a specific event in time being played over and over again. It can be thought of as playing a video tape on a loop, non stop. It is believed to be a type of "psychic impression" left in a specific place. The entity is not actually present, only the energy that it has left behind.
During a residual haunting sounds of footsteps, crying, and even screaming can be heard. Full bodied apparitions, mists, and orbs may even be seen. These things may seem a little scary, but there is absolutely no danger to the living beings involved with this type of haunting. The entity is completely unaware of their surroundings and therefor will not interact with the living. They do not understand that time has moved on and can not even notice obstacles that may be blocking their path. Many times these types of apparitions are seen walking through walls, or moving through solid objects. This is due to the fact that at the time the energy was "recorded" that particular wall, chair, door, etc..., more than likely, was not there. Most of the time, the activity will take place at the same time and location without fail.
Many paranormal investigators believe that this type of haunting occurs more often in locations that are built on or near limestone, quartz stone, and water. They are also thought to be caused by a traumatic of dramatic event having taken place causing the energy to be "recorded". While the victims of this type of haunting may wish to bring it to an end, that is relatively impossible to do. The only known remedy seems to be simply to accept it and allow it to run it's course. Over time the activity just seems to happen less and less until it eventually stops completely.

What a cool blog! I got excited when I found your blog. I actually had experienced some paranormal occurrences myself. I used to live in a big old house in an area called Forest Hills in New York City. And it's not just me who experienced them. My mother, my brother and a guest who stayed overnight also said they saw something.
